Student Stories

”I’ve been part of the Friday Night School program ever since I started my school journey and even occasionally return now to tutor when I can. I can proudly say that the FNS program has been one of the biggest positive impacts on my life. Growing up in a household with first generation immigrant parents definitely limited the amount of help I could get with my day to day studies. Being able to come to St Ignatius hall every Friday to get some help with my subjects was such a blessing. Even now when I come back as a tutor, the satisfaction from being able to help students improve in their studies is absolutely priceless.
Aside from the educational side, the social aspect of Friday Night school has allowed me to make many life long friends throughout the years. Being able to meet and talk to so many kids that were my age and from a similar background was very comforting. Over the years, this gradually helped to improve my social skills and build up confidence.
All in all, I’m so glad to have been part of such a rewarding and enriching experience. The people running FNS are truly passionate about what they do and give their all when it comes to helping.”

“Every Friday, since year 2, I go to Friday night school and get tutored. Over all those Fridays I have created new friends and friendships with many people. All the teachers, students, parents, volunteers, and tutors are always friendly at Friday Night School. They welcome everyone and are always smiling and cheerful. Friday Night School also gave my brother and I, and many other children, scholarships to many amazing schools. These schools will help all of us scholars benefit our future and have a good education. I am so deeply grateful for Sheena, Margaret and other people from the Friday Night School organisation. I live at home with my family, but when I go to Friday Night School it is like my second home. Friday Night School also provided my brother and I extra tutoring on Wednesdays and Sundays where we get extra help with our schoolwork. They also allow parents to learn English and set the parents up with a person to help develop their English. During lockdown, Margaret and Sheena gave my mum the opportunity to attend English classes and improve her English. From this, my mum has become more confident and has been able to talk to her customers at work. Finally, I, on behalf of all students, would send a big thank you to all the people from Friday Night School for always contributing, supporting and sharing with us.”

“I think that Friday Night School is an extremely beneficial program for not only me, but all the students attending FNS. It has been very helpful towards me ever since starting Friday Night School in 2019, and I always look forward to it at the end of every week. It has given me many new and exciting opportunities over the years and it has been an absolute pleasure to be part of those experiences. I think that Friday Night School has a real sense of community and that everyone feels like they are part of something that is special and worth being a part of. What I like most about Friday Night School is that everyone can get help and become involved. Whether it be students like me or parents in need, everyone is able to be assisted. There have always been positive remarks about the Friday Night School program, as many of my peers love coming as well. Overall, it is an extremely positive and welcoming environment to be in on a Friday night.”

“Since the third grade, Friday Night School has been a regular part of my life. Every Friday night, I go to Friday Night School. I get to meet teachers, parents, friends, and tutors at Friday Night School, especially Margaret and Sheena. Margaret and Sheena are my role models for being kind and nice to others, aside from my Mother.

Friday Night School acts as a bridge, allowing me to advance my knowledge. I think that any student like us might not give Friday Night School enough credit, and we think that we need to work more to learn and grow every day.

What I love most about Friday Night School is Margaret, Sheena and other teachers are always welcome and smiling at us. Tutors motivate me to ask questions and share knowledge with other people. I learnt how to give and receive which is important. I love parents and volunteers to share some lollies with us during breaks. Mini-games with my tutors which is helping me to relax and be more comfortable after a long week at school.

I am grateful and thankful for my impressive people, Margaret, Sheena, teachers, students, and parents at Friday Night School are always with us and supporting us.”
